I am surprised that not a single Goanetter took the opportunity to reply to
this query. Iwould have done
sobut I had no access to Goanet from March 10 till April 4 but I do notice
that some Goanetters did
have access to this website during this period.
Well, Dr. Barad, the surnames of all Goan Christians like Fernandes, Sousa,
Rodrigues, Pereira, Costa,
Dias, Gomes, Silva etc. were given by the Portuguese missionaries to our
Hindu ancestors on
conversion to Christianity in the late 16 th century and you could say we,
modern Goans have
inherited these Iberian surnames which had been with us for more than 4
centuries.
