Senior Congress
leader and Chief Minister of Goa Digamber Kamat had said on Friday that his
Gujarat counterpart and firebrand BJP leader Narendra Modi is his "best
friend", a remark which has not gone down well with his colleagues in the
Congress party.
However, later the minister said he was misquoted:"I had said that I have good
relations with all ministers and they're my friends. I also clarified that I
would not be attending Modi's function. Only one statement shared by the
media."
"We meet all ministers during conferences. I do not think there is anything
wrong with saying that I am friends with all ministers.", he added.
Kamat during a press briefing at Goa said Modi was his "best friend" and added
he would visit Gujarat if the state government invites him.
"When I am in Delhi for any conference, I have Sheila Dikshit on one side and
Narendra Modi on the other. He is my best friend," Kamat, who was earlier in
the BJP, told media persons on Friday.
Kamat's remarks did not go down well with state party leaders who said it is
for the party high command to act on the matter.
"You have to ask him (Kamat) why he said so. It is for the party high command
to act and seek his clarification," Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President
Subhash Shirodkar said.
He refused to further comment on the issue.
