BICHOLIM, APRIL 24: Efficiency can sometimes be a liability in the police department. In once such case, political interference in police department has once again come to the fore and this time the victims were two police constables attached to Usgao outpost in Bicholim taluka. According to reports, there was an accident between a truck (KA-22-A-6475) and Trax (GA-01-B-5511) at Usgao-Bicholim on April 13. After the two police constables attached to Usgao outpost rushed to the site, Trax driver Somnath Raghuvir Naik and Gurudas R Naik started arguing with them and demanded that the truck driver be handed over to them and they would solve the issue their way. Following the law, the police constables rejected the demand. Enraged with this, the duo attacked the constables, threatened of dire consequences and also told them about their political links. Since the duo was not ready to listen, the police arrested them under Section 353 IPC for obstructing government servants in discharging their duty. However on Friday, the two police constables were surprised when they got transfer letters and were asked to join Goa Reserve Police. “It all happened because of political interference and it is really sad that the cops are getting this reward for their prompt service,” a source from police told
