This is a strange assertion. How can one claim progress is being made on the
truth about the inquisition only when one likes the headline or whatever is
written under it? It betrays a presumption of knowledge of the truth even
before the historian has fully uncovered it.

Real intellectual honesty, on the other hand, recognizes that the dispassionate
process of uncovering the truth is in and of itself progress, irrespective of
what it might ultimately turn out to be. The process could take several twists
and turns depending on new revelations along the way.

Regarding the rest of the above post, I think Teotoniobab has adequately
addressed the failure in it to recognize the fact that a newspaper interview is
usually an extremely stunted and distorted reflection of the knowledge and
views of an expert. The interviewee is always at the mercy of the interviewer
and the editor/publisher who publishes the interview. To add insult to injury
the concerned journalists then cherry pick one brief quote from an entire
interview to use as the title to sell the piece, which is what happened in the
present case.

Cheers,

Santosh
