Goa Govt, church authority condemn desecration Guardian Angel Church Panaji, May 3 : The Goa government and the Church authorities have condemned the desecration of the Guardian Angel Church in Curchorem, where unknown miscrants had damaged and defaced several statues.
The statue of Our Lady of Lourdes and that of Lucy were desecrated on Saturday night. Following the incident, chief minister Digambar Kamat, accompanied by home minister Ravi Naik and local legislator Shyam Satardekar, rushed to the spot and comndemned the incident. They also assured people of taking adequate security measures to prvent recurrence of such incidents. Upset over desecration of the statues, the parishioners yesterday condemned the government's inability to curb repeat of such incidents in Goa, alleging that the elements were out to disrupt communal peace and harmony in the tourist state. The statues were erected in the church in 1956 as they were brought from Portugal through a donor. Meanwhile, local police have apprehended some labourers for questioning in connection with the incident.
