Diocesan priests, I believe do not take the vow of poverty. Is he a
Diocesan, and say a professional too, say a lawyer or in some other
profession? In that case he just could be, though not necessarily be
seeing differently. Perhaps he has a business, has been giving
classes, or is the good bouncer at a Clube, etc.

Perhaps comprehension of said non-vow may extent into other areas (all
manners of ownerships, wants, etc). He could have come by family
money. He could be carrying  out a project on someone else' behalf
that involves a need to sell a property with him as the astute point
person. Ani tya fudden, tya fudden, tya ...

Of course as a "layman" he may also be seeing himself as a Ardhsanghik
(ardha = half, sanghik = belonging to a sangha).
