*http://www.oheraldo.in/newscategory/Letters/13* ** *Who’s ‘squealing’ now? Agnelo Pinheiro, by email *Churchill conveniently forgets he is a public servant. As an elected representative, he has to maintain decorum in public life. His comments come from the gutter, and to the gutter he should be sent. The people of Goa want an apology, not excuses. NGO’s are part of the society that he is elected to serve. They have all the rights and privileges to protest as per the Constitution. His right is to remain silent, if he cannot speak without calling them names. To count his so-called sacrifices for Goa, one must first count the political parties he has changed. Does he even know in which political party he is right now? ** *Churchill’s ‘achievements’ Arwin Mesquita, Abu Dhabi *I think no other Goan politician has let Goans down more than Churchill Alemao. His perceived fight for Konkani in the ’80s got him and his family huge political, business and other personal benefits. His support for mega-projects cannot be accepted as in the interest of Goa and Goans. Will he teach Romi Konkani to the so many migrant workers and the migrant buyers of apartments in the mega-projects? What is he doing to ‘Save Goa’ and its identity? ** *Rise and fight! Reuben Coutinho, Tivim *I write this letter in appreciation of Swatantra Sarjano’s article ‘Are you serious?’ (Herald Mirror, 13 June). It is a sad state of affairs that our politicians keep making false promises and the common man bears the brunt of their unwise misguidance. Why are Goans so gullible? Is it so hard to get out of their clutches? If we elected them to rule over us, we ought to have the right to kick them out of power, should they fail to fulfil their public duties. Tell me, does ‘development’ have to involve ‘destruction’ of our God-given resources? What is wrong with the people? It is high time to get up and get out of bed before it’s too late, lest we all are killed in our slumber. Remember the saying, ‘better late than never.’ Thank you, Sarjano, for bringing the facts in the open and making people aware of what’s going on. ** *Who’s glowing? Soter D’Souza, Socorro *The Goa government has just published a self-congratulatory book titled ‘Golden Glow’. Probably, our ministers may be glowing from the loot they have gathered, but there is definitely no glow on the faces of the Goan people. What achievements? The government has only destroyed self-sustainable options for the Goan community. Successive governments have pressurised Goans to sell their land and flee the state. Electricity, foodgrains, fruits, vegetables, milk, labour… All are imported. We are not far from the day when water will also have to be imported, and Goans will have to sell themselves to make a living. Digambar Kamat has perhaps forgotten what ‘India Shining’ did to the NDA government. Goans will remind him at election time, by removing the glow from his gold. ** *Outsiders rule Goa? Marcos Alemao, Varca *I feel ashamed that Mauvin Godinho, the Cortalim MLA, helped re-elect the illiterate non-Goan sarpanch of Sancoale. Are there no Goans in Sancaole to occupy the post of Sarpanch? Our elected representatives do not depend upon our votes to get re-elected. They take care of these non Goans to vote for them. The sarpanch allows illegalities. This is why there are so many illegal activities in Mauvin Godinho’s constituency (hill cutting, illegal filling, etc). The Goans at Sancaole have become a minority because of our greedy elected representatives. Will we Goans be a minority in the state soon?
