When we indict the Goan politicians we have to also include the Goan activists in the mix. These Goan activists are no less criminal than the politicos. They are equally complicit. We had a small window of opportunity post-Dec 2006 with the GBA rally at Azad Maidan. But the GBA honchos drove the movement into the ground.
The ex-convener of GBA "danced footsie" with Digu while simultaneously telling Goans that he was "apolitical." All his GBA chelas stoutly defended him after Soter and I long ago realized that the would-be blue-eyed emperor had no clothes on. Finally the blue-eyed wunderkind himself came around and conceded as much that he was a fraud. The ex-South Goa convener of GBA is now Digu's point man, drawing a handsome salary paid for by YOU. Architects pretending to be environmentalists are playing on both the teams - telling people that they are fighting on their behalf while concurrently doing everything to safeguard their own financial and professional interests. So, no, it ain't only the Goan politicos. The Goan acitivists are WORSE, the stinkiest rotters there are on the planet. Without these venal vermin, the govt wouldn't be today so emboldened to lead us into the gutter. Regards, r ----- Original Message ---- From: Rajan P. Parrikar <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Thu, July 1, 2010 11:48:58 PM Subject: Goa in the gutter To Goanet - Goa is now firmly in the gutter. The following two points may be noted. One, Goans are sinking deeper with every passing day. Ghatis are being recruited left and right by Goa's politicians with the goal of rendering Goans politically irrelevant. Note that the political calculus in Goa is such that all you need are 2000-3000 ghatis in your electoral pocket to lock in victory. Assume a modest number streaming into Goa every day from Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, UP, MP etc etc. Upon arrival they are processed by agents of the MLAs, & handed ration cards. Then they are inserted into the voter rolls. Monserrate & co even make arrangements for accommodation (known otherwise as expansion of slums). This is voter fraud on an unprecedented scale - I wonder if even Bihar has this level of outright subversion of democracy. But then, what we have in Goa, indeed in India, is what my friend Dr. Atanu Dey calls "cargo cult democracy." That is, there is only the veneer of democracy; what actually prevails on the ground is goonda raj. Two, Digambar Kamat and his entire govt are robber barons, criminals who are openly stealing from the state, and inviting other criminals from all over India into the state to share in the loot. In the current situation, we have reached the limits of representative democracy. There is no law, no checks & balances, and the judiciary is a participant in this unholy enterprise. In the olden days, justice was served to these kind of scum with beheadings but we call ourselves too civilized to to contemplate such swift techniques. Our version of civilization is to sit by passively and watch our elected rulers screw us. r
