As usual, Fred has written his piece / peace with a writer's and counselor's flair. Goanet serves the well stated useful purposes. They also include but not restricted to: 1. Making some goanetters addicted to their key board instead of a (booze) bottle. 2. Provides retirees or near-retirees some pastime.
Yet of late, goanetter-abuse is of a qualitatively different level - using goannet e-mail address to start a side-chain. This is achieved by a well publicized creator of the list and the 5-6 well-known goaneters; who abhore everyone with their internal correspondence. Even after repeated requests to drop our name off this spam list, we have to put up with these posts. Kudos to these 6-9 otherwise well-educated goan guys, (few are doctors) who emphasize the 'dic' in their valedictorian skill. A delete-button works well; sometimes after getting a refresher course in abusive language; that most to these posts contain. The problem is when on returns from a week of a peaceful vacation to find one's in-box flooded with spam mail. I like your phrase below about not ... "targeting the person instead of the issue". I have been using that of late, referring to it as "supercilious" comments. Finally to posts, and articles in the newspaper, I saw an interesting cartoon. The supreme court nominee when questioned on their favorite color, states: "That's an interesting question, made all the more complicated when one considers the sheer magnitude of the myriad of colors that could actually be one's favorite, if one chose to have a favorite, but if you grant me point of personal privilege .... I am not for personalising our differences of opinion, and targeting the person instead of the issue. ------------- Clinton Vaz wrote: Admins, please moderate such comments from known trolls. I, as many others probably, have even considered un-subscribing from Goanet, as the noise ratio has gone up so much that it makes searching for normal emails just too much of an effort.
