To Goanet - Today's Herald carries a report by Lionel Messias that details the massive waste of taxpayer money by Goa's flying politicians. The expenses of their flights in and out of Goa run into tens of lakhs. No questions asked, no accountability. Lionel has been exposing this profligacy for a couple of years now. In any civilized country, this would be a major scandal. But in Goa it is merely another Sunday news item that will become raddi tomorrow.
Lionel's list, I presume, includes only the trips billed to the public treasury. People like the Rane Sr & Jr, Monserrate and others are said to take frequent private trips out of Goa to destinations like Dubai, UK, etc. One wonders if these under-the-public-radar trips are made to offshore banking havens (islands off UK, for example). Admin Frederick Noronha wrote a cant the other day about the need to expose corruption. So this is a story he could investigate even though it would be best if it were really left to capable, honest and independent hands. Regards, r
