This is the latest from Target Goa on the first day of the Assembly's proceedings.
Opposition tears into Govt over jobs going to non-Goans, price rise 2010-07-19 The Opposition armed with questions and the self-righteousness of having spent sleepless nights collecting corroborative and damning evidence of bad governance, tore into the government with questions of non-Goans hogging all the jobs and the price rise. Chief Minister Digambar Kamat managed to wriggle out of answering tough questions by trotting the old line of now-that-it-has-been-brought-to-my-notice,-I-will-look-into-it. This when the Opposition presented documentary evidence of how more than 50 per cent of security jobs in government departments are taken by non-Goans. High cost of food and the ineffectiveness of the Public Distribution System reverberated in the Hall of the Assembly with BJP MLAs hollering at the Civil Supplies Minister Jose Philip D'Souza who said, the same thing was happening all over the country. Damodar Naik went berserk with full lung power forcing the Speaker Pratapsing Rane to stand up and announce that anything shouted out would be expunged from the records. And that if he declared it expunged the electronic media would have to abide by his ruling for subsequent telecasts of the Assembly proceedings coverage. The Civil Supplies Minister had a broad grin on his face. The Oppostion had a plan. They have more than 2000 questions to ask and more than 800 to be directly answered by the Ministers concerned on the floor of the House. They did not waste time on inessentials. They know the electronic media is covering the Assembly proceedings live. This is the most efficient way they have of exposing the inefficiencies of the government to Goans directly. They can push their arguments home convinced that Goans will be listening and watching.
