Hi Jim-- Thoughts stemming from your remark which I presume is nuanced. Of course my take is more generic and does not focus on any indvidual.
People switch citizenship for various reasons, that may have nothing to do with their critiques and criticism of colonial rule--but with ideas, notions and views that proffer and demand a different interactive space, a different aesthetic, including other forces that impact on ones being--desiring something equally good (as in original country), the best, or something better than what one got accustomed to. People make decisions that are congruent with their aspirations, and one cannot expect anyone to reveal their reasons for decisions they took in their lives. To submit an extrapolated analogy, I am reminded of the phrase "labor of love." Very often, the labor has nothing to do with the love; but often arduous groundwork towards something larger. If it clicks then bingo (as in a full house). ++++++++++++ venantius j pinto > Message: 2 > Date: Thu, 19 Aug 2010 10:59:27 -0400 > From: Jim Fernandes <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [Goanet] A request to all active contributors to Goanet > > (DELETETED) > If Teotonio disliked Portuguese rule in Goa, please go ask him why he > took Portuguese citizenship.
