Goanet mourns the passing of Cornel da Costa in London, England - Sep 10/10

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Folks,
I guess every one of us will at some point get a really painful experience
on receiving the news of the passing away of a person. The news of
Cornel DaCosta's passing fell into that painful category for me.

Every once in a while I get to read a post that is so good that I archive it.
This morning I took a look at my archives and what struck me was that
all the posts authored by Cornel attacked the subject matter and not the
author.

Cornel made his views well know. His first email to me was on the use
of its and it's. He later wrote on the Palestine issue, socialism, music,
the religious divide and the caste system. In all these subjects,
his views were similar to mine.

I got to meet Cornel at the Goan conference in Toronto two years ago.
Unlike many other cyber friends, Cornel did not disappoint in person.
He would listen to your view point and causally agree or disagree with
you. When he disagreed, he would tell you why. In short, he was a
person you could disagree with and still be happy to have around.

Cornel, as most of you know, had a one man crusade against the
caste and especially the Goan Catholic caste system. That got him
into a lot of hot water on Goanet. At some point, he decided it would
be in his best interest not to post on Goanet. We are all the poorer for
this.

He is now at a place where there is no caste system.
Rest in peace my friend.
You did enrich the lives of those you met on your journey.

Subject: [Goanet] Cornel DaCosta, RIP

It is with a heavy heart and absolute shock that I inform you that Cornel
passed

away of a sudden heart attack today (Friday) in London in a hospital. I offered
his wife Dr. Nancy our condolences from the Goan community and will inform you
of funeral services later or perhaps Eddie Fernandes will do the needful.

May he rest in peace.

George
