Help other CONSUMERS to be better informed. ----------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN calls on GTDC to withdraw content about Goa from the International Travel Mart website. ------------------------------------------------------------ GOACAN on the eve of World Tourism Day has expressed concerns about the content of the Know About Goa section of the website of the International Travel Mart (ITM Goa 2010) and has called upon the GTDC to withdraw the content in its present form.
GOACAN has also requested GTDC to instead carry content which has clarifications on issues about tourists safety, crime & terrorism, garbage disposal, drug mafia, sex tourism & paedophila, environmental protection and redressal of consumer grievances in the travel & tourism trade. In a email & letter to Mr. Nikhil Desai, Managing Director, Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. GOACAN has highlighted its concerns and called for the MD's urgent intervention in the matter. It may be noted that in the website http://www.itmgoa.com of the International Travel Mart to be held in Goa from 14th to 17th October 2010 the information contained in the section Know about Goa http://www.itmgoa.com/goa.html has just two parts (1) so Old a Place and (2) a Secular State. The content of both these sections have concentrated on matter that is not directly relevant to the purpose of the event and is likely to cause much harm to the very purpose of the event which is to promote travel & tourism. The information placed into these two sections have statements that do not need to be made at such an event and is not directly linked to promoting travel & tourism. Moreover the history of Goa as presented in this section is definitely inadequate and problematic and needs to be withdrawn. Copies of the email & letter have been sent to Chief Minister Mr. Digambar Kamat, Mr. Nilkanth Halarnkar Minister for Tourism, Mr. Ravi S. Naik Minister for Home, Mr. Sanjay K. Srivastava, Chief Secretary, Dr. M. Modassir Tourism Secretary, Mr. Shyam Satardekar Chairman, Goa Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. Mr. B.S.Bassi Director General of Police, Mr. Swapnil Naik Director of Tourism, Mr. Gaurish Dhond President Travel & Tourism Association of Goa and Mr.Ralph de Sousa Chairman Tourism Committee, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry. ---------------------------------------------------------- GOA CIVIC AND CONSUMER ACTION NETWORK ---------------------------------------------------------- promoting civic and consumer rights in Goa ---------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN Post Box 187 Margao, Goa 403 601 GOACAN Post Box 78 Mapusa, Goa 403 507 mail: *[email protected]* Visit: *http://goacan.blogspot.com * ----------------------------------------------------------
