-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM SEPT 30: The traditional fugdi competition organised by a Higher Secondary of Mayem took an unexpected turn when six girls fainted and had to be admitted to the hospital.
According to sources the incident occurred at about 7.30 pm. A higher secondary school from Mayem had organised a fugdi competition in the school for girls in the evening today. There was huge crowd in the premises to see this competition in which several groups of girls participated. It so happened that about six girls from one group fainted and there was commotion all around. The concerned parents and the villagers tried several means to get them into senses. Some of them came to senses while some remained unconcious. Sighting danger the villagers immediately decided to rush them to PHC Bicholim. All the six girls were shifted to the hospital and after preliminary treatment were sent home. There was a huge crowd of villagers and family members gathered at PHC Bicholim. The police was also called. The girls and the family members in a state of embarrassment tried to avoid the police and told not to register any report in the matter. The Bicholim police later registered the matter as an accident.
