If you have noticed, we have changed the subject line for this column to
make it simple, crisp and uncomplicated, at the suggestion of one of our
readers.

The raison d'etre for this column is the underlying assumption that our
posters have two personae - the Internet persona and the real you. Both do
not have to necessarily be the same. Sometimes a poster is committed to a
stance and then continues the same stance for reasons of consistency.

Bernado Colaco, a poster from far away Macau appears at first glance to be
brusque and cynical, particularly related to all shenanigans political or
otherwise in Goa. In reality when corresponding with him for a write up for
this column I found him to be warm and gracious.

Bernado was born in the Escola Medica de Goa which was then located in
Panjim in the post 61 era. In his own words, "I know nothing about Salazar
except stories told by my elderly neighbours."

Bernado did his preschool in Cristo Rei then located behind Pharmacy
College. Among his contemporaries were Armando Gonsalves and the present
Education Minister Atanasio 'Babush' Monteiro. Probably, Rajan Parrikar was
also a student of the school. Later on, he continued with his studies in
Sharada Mandir which he likes to call (derisively?) "Sharada Bhandar". A
tit-bit for Goaphiles would be the fact that Sharada Mandir was initially
located above the Panjim Sorting Office, in Rua da Ourem, just behind CMM.
Later on in the sixties it was relocated at its present location. Bernardo
goes on to add that Sharada Mandir was started by Pediatrician Dr. Miguel
and Mrs. Lucy Costa.

On his completion of the ICSE Exam in 1975, Bernardo joined SS Dempo College
of Commerce & Economics. Here he was to quote him, " mainly engaged in
sports, I represented in Football, Field Hockey and Athletics. We swept
almost all trophies with the exception of Basketball which was mostly won by
Dhempe. In 1977 I was the all Goa Junior Champion in Athletics. Thanks to
coaches Balgi and Vaigankar. Tharakan of Xavier gave the best upcoming
athlete award after sweeping some events at an open Xavier meet in 1978.
Bored of Athletics I joined Red Ant in one Hockey camp in Panjim. I got a
call to join the Goa junior hockey team. I think it was the best Goa hockey
team ever assembled . We missed getting into the quarters by a whisker. An
foot injury forced me out of the match which left coach Red Ant (Redento D'
Souza - who later became Dy. Director in the Directorate of Sports and Youth
Affairs) fuming. We took a goal after that.

Bernado feels that as a result of his participation in sports during his
college career, he has a job as a Sports Coordinator of an academic
Institution in Macau, where he trains children to play games like table
tennis, field hockey, cricket, badminton and football. He laments the fact
that he has to work in a very confined spaces unlike Goa which has abundant
space but lacks in facilities. His hobby is social networking and as he
says, "GOANET IS KIND OF DAILY PRIORITY."

A person who deeply cares for Goa, he dreams of seeing an "AUTONOMOUS GOA"
in the near future.

I asked Bernado, what in his opinion was his best post on Goanet.

Bernado's reply was that he had about ten pages of posts to Goanet and he
picked the present one because FN was (is?) still trying to find out who BC
is:

Quote:

Hello Freddy,

To know the real Bernado, I extend my warm wishes to you to visit
Macau. Home and some food will be provided. But please do it in these
15 days.

Meanwhile kindly note that Goa is under seige. Anjediva is not allowed
to be visted by the hegemony indian army. Dabolim airport is lost. The
Opinion poll
which so much talked about was a duff poll, although its results were
a slap on the face of the bharatis.Goan people were forced to shed
blood for Concani
status. In the meantime many say the language was repressed for 4
centuries. Sao Francisco Xavier has been accused of being a murderer,
than no evidence is
found he became a racist, still no evidence was found. Blessed Jose
Vaz was not canonized because of the Portuguese. But now there is a
write up saying that is
not true. Are these problems occuring because the Saraswats have lost
power in Goa? Please blame Bandodcar for the sudden emancipation and
its failures
in Goa.

Unquote

Well Sr. Colaco, I hope that this post clears the air (at least
partly) about who you are. and I am sure with the kind of offer you
have made to FN, you might even
find even me darkening your Macau door one fine morning - typhoons and
storms permitting.

You have not mentioned the Casino's and the exotic femmes fatales of
Macau - perhaps we'll find these in a future post?

Adeus agora

Tony
