Dr. Ganapati Mauze was taken from us abruptly in August 2010. He was a devoted husband, a caring father, and a good friend and an avid supporter of Goa Sudharop. He was a son of Cansaulim. Although he settled in the USA his heart was in Goa and he cared deeply for Goans and children in particular.
Goa Sudharop conducted a fund raising drive among his numerous friends and donated the amount for a scholarship. The family has decided they would like the money to be kept in a trust in a Goa bank in a long-term fixed deposit. The yearly interest will go towards an annual scholarship instituted in memory of Ganapati to a financially deserving and meritorious student from St. Thomas School, Cansaulim (the choice of the school was made by the family). The first annual scholarship in Ganapati's name will be made starting Jan 5, 2011 at the Goa Sudharop annual awards function. Mrs. Smita Mauze, his daughter Anisha and son Akhil, expressed gratitude towards Goa Sudharop for organizing this drive. Smita said "Ganapati loved Goa and the children of Goa. He would have wholeheartedly supported raising funds for an annual scholarship for a child in Cansaulim. I thank Goa Sudharop for raising these funds in the memory of Ganapati." Goa Sudharop is a non profit organization based in the USA and Goa, devoted to the betterment of Goans especially the needy and underprivileged. Over the past decade Goa Sudharop has awarded scholarships to needy deserving Goan students, distributed books and toys for children, supported authors and artists and launched projects for cleaning up the environment, and much more.
