I would let Goa rot even more. Let the stink build up. That way, not just
Germans, but even the Russians and Desi tourists would stop coming to Goa. In a
way, I would like to see the tourism industry killed!

I am of the opinion, that tourism is NOT helping Goans. Its helping non-Goans
make money off of Goans.

Show me one hotel that is paying decent enough salary to Goans with which
he/she can afford to buy a plot/build a house/purchase an apartment AND pay for
expenses to raise a family of four.

It is tourism that has driven the prices of groceries and fish, way above the
purchasing power of local Goans. It is tourism that has helped the real estate
prices to rise to un-affordable levels of local Goans. It is tourism that has
brought drugs and other riff-raff that usually accomapanies such habits, that
has made Goa the source of un-flattering headlines.

Take the case of housing plots. A typical seller expects to fetch Rs 5,000 to
7,000 per sq mt on his land. Assuming one would need at least 300 sq mt plot to
build a small house, he/she would need to spend at least Rs 1,500,000 (15 lacs
@ Rs5000 per sq mt) - just to purchase the plot!

To this, add the cost of building a house. A typical low cost house would
now-a-days cost at least another Rs. 1,500,000. This would mean, one would need
at least Rs 3,000,000 (30 lacs) to acquire a modest plot and a really modest
house. Alternatively, one could possibly get a small two-bedroom apartment for
about the same money.

How many Goans do you think, earn/save this kind of money in Goa on tourism
related industries? If there are not that many, aren't we better off without
tourism?
