Going through the columns of Herald (26/12/2010) it is extremely hard to
believe that Raul Fernandes - if he is the publisher of O HeraldO - would
actually appeal for an alliance between O Herald O and the people of Goa to
stem the rot inflicting Goa and prevent damnation.
No one denies that O Herald O has played a historic role in exposing corruption
and supporting Goa's language and environmental struggles of the past. Until
recently this news daily has afforded a platform for many village level
struggles to be heard. But most regretfully in the recent months gone by, one
fails to witness that claim of being an unbiased and non-selfish tool for
protest and change. If at all O Herald O now claims to play such a role, it
will actually present a challenge to Noam Chomsky's analysis about
'Manufacturing Consent' as the political economy of modern day mass media.
Having observed that my views are probably being thrust into the spam bin from
October 2010, I wonder whether this sincere critique from among the masses
(bewildered herd) will ever be allowed to pass that filter installed to prevent
publishing of news and opinions that do not contribute to the current vested
political designs of Goa's 'Specialised Class'.
