Anthony D’Silva from Assolna is a social activist who is a part of, and has
been working, with several groups in Goa to protect our villages, the rights of
our farmers and our traditional fishermen - in fact to protect our very Goan
identity. Apart from this, at the community level he has voluntarily worked
with school children, youth, teachers and other individuals to educate people
on the ill-effects of plastic, on the ill-effects of smoking, and on AIDS
awareness. In his own village, he started 22 newspaper kiosks at strategic
locations near bus stops, bars, wells, play grounds, etc. enabling hundreds of
villagers to get daily access to 2 local newspapers. He has conducted more than
10 blood donation camps and in fact has himself donated blood several times
over. He has been long involved in social activism, and environmental awareness
and protection activities.
