India Against Corruption Rally in Goa

I joined the rally for a cause
It didn’t matter to me as to  who organised it.
Infact, I don’t even know, however.  I could dig up or read to see the
details, if I wanted to..

Even if I knew if the same was organised by some of the dirtiest Goa
politicians, I would have stiil  attended.

I know how Govt. Dept are rotted to the core.
Nothing moves without bribe.
I have been to almost all dept and I know what I am talking about.

Infact, I have developed a sort of phobia (don’t know if there is any term
for it), It’s sort of a fear or irritation or uneasiness or disconfort i get
the moment I think of it or step into  any govt  dept/offices.
Believe or not,  it’s true. Often I think of it all the times including bedtime.
I feel I don’t want to go anywhere near to them.

So far, I have been to  Ilhas/Mormugoa Mamlatdars, Dy. Collectors,
TCPs, PWDs, Forest Depts, Some panchayats. Heath Centres etc
 they are all same.

The only way I could get my work done was after filing RTIs asking for
the delays. (after waiting for months)
At one Dy. Collector office, one officer virtually begged before me
to withdraw my RTI saying he would get my work done straight away,
which he did within an hour. Here I am so soft –withdrawn my application.
But they never feel that way about us. They treat us worst than animals.

Many will even go on saying ‘it’s your work, so you should keep coming
 here for enquires etc’
Some employees, who got Govt. jobs by virtue of their disabilities, are
even the worst, talking to us in rude manner and with ugly faces.
.
Coming back the anti- corruption rally in the city..
Looks like some of our newspapers  under quoted the actual number
of those who took part in the rally.
TOI says ‘nearly 500’ where as H said ‘around 500’,  GT ‘Hundreds of People’
where as NT said ‘around thousand people’
 (however, H in it’s today’s  1/2/11 editorial says around 1000)

The Rally or the march alone had about300 women.
However, it does appear that people at Azad maidan was less than
those participated in the rally. This could be partly because people
had come to show their solidarity  by joining the rally
Young and very young also old and very old people also spotted in the
rally as can be seen one woman with walking stick (watch video)
As people had come from far away, they must have left without waiting
for Bhaxonn or speeches at Azad Maidan..

There were people sitting on the lawns, seated on the chairs,
standing, people around the merorial, standing far infront at the
entrance etc

We too were in the rally, we joined near souza paul.
We saw Prajal Sakardhande, we saw Sancoale Priest
Fr. Eremeth Rebelo and others  who were in the rally thoughout.

When I saw a older woman with a walking stick and covering about a
hour long journey/rally, my heart cried. also when I say some women
carrying  babies/infants.

It would be nice if the newpapers quoted  the right estimate, if in doubt,
just ignore quoting any number.  There is a lot of difference when one
says less than 500 when actual number was around 900. It's nice to be
on higher side particular movement / activism like this.

By quoting less than the actual number is like killing the very purpose
'solidarity'

By quoting  untrue or lesser number, is like killing  the people's efforts
and sacrifices. who were in the rally for about an hour.

Hope our news papers bear this in mind

My verdict: I would go with NT  & GT (as my estimate was  around 900)
