The poll was conducted by the election authorities. The non-Indian Goa Su-Raj
party most likely lost its deposit. Only Indian parties won seats. Most Goans
living in Goa today like to call themselves Indian. They are genetically
closest to Indians from the neighboring states. Many of them leave Goa in
droves nowadays to work and settle down in other Indian cities such as Pune and
Bangalore for better opportunities. Much before 1961 a lot of them left in
droves for Mangalore. Later on others moved to British and Indian Mumbai.
