The newspapers correctly point out that the 21st of March 2011 is the day or
reckoning for Goa. The medium of instruction politics cleverly unleashed some
20 years ago by a section of communal konknniwadis through a then ego-inflated
Cristao minister has now come full circle. The stark reality has been realised
by the people of Goa. The blind emotions prevailing after the konkani agitation
have faded away and Goans are now in a better position to reason out over the
future of their child's education. The communal konknniwadis have bitten the
hand that fed them. Truth reveals itself in time.
The unspoken agenda remains that it is the Cristaos who need to be nationalised
in the name of konknni in the devanagiri script. A Hindu friend of mine
narrated how his daughter resented his suggestion that she opt for konknni as a
second language over Marathi, French and Portuguese in her high school. This
was solely because the grand daughter of a renowned konknni stalwart had opted
for French as her second language. The children of the ministers who introduced
the medium of instruction never went to a konknni medium school but completed
their education in a posh English medium school under the CBSE Board. This is
the cruel joke on the masses and minorities living in the villages.
While the Cristaos are accused of being anti-nationals, the desh premis have
not stopped short of sending their own children to the US for further studies
and better job prospects. The number of konknni medium non-church schools in
Goa almost do not exist and it only remains fossilised within the schools run
by the Diocesan Board of Education. Inspite of all this, the Cristaos continue
to be labelled as denationalised Goans by the communal konknniwadis and the
heritage Roman script for Konkani denied its rightful recognition.
History will be re-written in Goa today even though Konkani mai will suffer a
set-back. But this is entirely because of the communal agenda of these handful
of konknni frauds have done nothing for Konkani except convert it into a
torture and exploitation weapon to be used against some communities in Goa.
The truth is the truth and has to be spoken of at some point in time for the
survival of Goa.
