On the opening of her exhibition of limited edition prints of Vision, Shamanistic Art at the Gallery Gitanjali in Panjim on 1st April 2011, Sohela offers an art performance titled “Tribal Wisdom”, followed by her mesmerizing 35 minute art animation film based upon her artworks.

“In an art performance, I move beyond the two dimensional canvas and act with my body in space. I express my art form, with awareness, presence and the use of materials, sounds and light. There is no separateness between the artist and the artwork, and unlike a traditional piece of art there is nothing to purchase. Rather than just to entertain an audience, the value of an art performance is in its experience. I invite you to share this platform with me at my exhibition at the Gallery Gitanjali.

During the art performance “Tribal Wisdom “ I shall use archetypal symbols eg the spiral (symbol of creation, spiritual journey etc). In Shamanic tradition true power is about balance, harmony with nature and surrender to spirit, not power over people and possessions. The Shaman of the tribe is the healer and its intermediary between the material world and the spirit world, bringing guidance and wisdom to the community or tribe.

I invite you to enter into my world of visions, shamans, plants and spirits, and let my animation film “Through my Cloud of Possibilities” bring to life for you my pictures.”

Sohela is Iranian born, grew up in Germany where she studied Free Art at the prestigious Hannover FH. The medium for these works is pen and inks, and the work is intense. As one observer said “one could get lost in her pictures”. The inspiration for her works comes from her travels in India where she came into contact with ancient and tribal cultures, their knowledge and wisdom, and also from her experience of the rejuvenating Goa monsoon. Accompanying her during the opening art performance are two accomplished musicians, Andrea Presa with the aboriginal instrument, the didgeridoo, and Paco Ridriguez with the tribal drum.
