Ships during its empty voyage, to achieve stable buoyancy, have to fill in a
lot of water to compensate for empty cargo hold. When the iron ore gets loaded,
the extra water is discharged into the seas.
There are atleast two ships in the port, which had taken in huge ballast water
when they started their empty voyage from the seas near Japan, which are
contaminated by radioactivity from Tsunami hit Japanese nuclear plants.
Such water, if discharged into Goan seas can be dangerous not only fishes in
the sea but also to the population along the coast.
Some media persons were quick to identify this threat. But curiosly
nothing appeared in the media.
Authorities in MPT, Coast Guards as well as Goa Govt have to tackle this on war
footing.
