Help other CONSUMERS to be better informed ----------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN to observe a Consumer & Public Health Awareness Fortnight ------------------------------------------------------------------------- GOACAN will observe a Consumer & Public Health Awareness Fortnight from the 7th April on the occasion of World Health Day to highlight the various opportunities available to consumers to improve the situation of public health at the grass roots level.
During the fortnight GOACAN along with the village based Consumer Forums will source information necessary for consumers to understand their rights & responsibilities linked to public health. Volunteers will promote the use of the Urban Health Centres (UHCs) in the Municipal areas and the Community Health Centres (CHCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and their respective Rural Medical Dispensaries (RMDs) & Sub-Centres in the Village Panchayat areas. The importance and functioning of the Goa Medical College Hospital, the new District Hospitals and their various Departments offering facilities to consumers will also be discussed during the Fortnight. The volunteers will also work to activate the DHS promoted Village Health and Sanitation Committees at the Panchayat level by proposing a calendar of activities that can be undertaken in the village. During the fortnight GOACAN will prepare volunteers for the forthcoming Gram Sabha meetings to discuss proposals on Health Care, Sanitation of the village and the need for an Annual Village Health Status Report from the PHC. Consumer Forum volunteers will also create awareness about the importance of the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), its implementation at the District, Taluka, Municipal & Panchayat level. Volunteers will also create awareness on the scope and purpose of the Goa Public Health Act 1985 and Rules 1986, the role & powers of the Health Officer for issuance of NOC's, sanitary cards, health cards and the abatement of nuisances.
