To be fair to them, I doubt this had anything to do with the Babushes of the world. And the BJP, like all politicians, are hardly the best of crystal ball gazers. Talking about that, I was intrigued to find an entire book devoted to Pratapsing Raoji Rane, when he was given the "legislator of the millennium" award and title sometime at the fag end of the last century or the beginning of this. Guess who moved the motion? Manohar Parrikar himself. But of course, Rane was then a Congress Speaker doing great things for a BJP government (till the tide turned). Happens in Goa! Which makes me wonder. Why do we contrast and compare these two parties as if they are the polar opposites? If someone studied the role communal forces played in "Congress"-ruled Goa, it would be quite educational. Pun intended. FN
