>From the Joseph Naik Vaz Institute ....

Today April 21, 2011 is the 360th birth anniversary of Blessed Joseph Vaz
(Patron of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman). See more information at
http://www.josephnaikvaz.org/index.html

In his memory, the BLESSED VAZ "SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY DAY" raised
approximately $1,600 in food and cash amounts for food banks and centers in
California to feed the hungry. Thanks to all who donated and to the regional
leaders (Louise, Sharon, Melanie, Jeanette, Filomena) who helped.

A man who worked with different religious faiths, Blessed Vaz is a role-model
for inter-faith peace and justice. In 2010, the Vatican was petitioned
(including 1,200+ signatures) by the Joseph Naik Vaz Institute to canonize
Blessed Vaz.

We are hopeful that the heroic efforts of Filomena Sarawati Giese, who
single-handedly has promoted his cause for the past 30 years, will be
successful and Blessed Vaz will be canonized this year. Her determined efforts
against various odds may result in a 2011 canonization. Goans owe her a debt of
gratitude for her perseverance and service towards a great Goan.
