-- Samir Umarye PANAJI: The Goa State Pollution Control Board<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=Pollution%20Control%20Board>(GSPCB) has ordered the iron and manganese ore mine bearing TC number 28/1953 at Sarvona village in Bicholim taluka to immediately suspend all developmental activity.
GSPCB <http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=GSPCB> has also issued directions to 34 other mines to produce copies of approval of the chief wildlife warden for clearances under the Forest Conservation<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=Forest%20Conservation>Act within 60 days for operation of the mines. The 34 mines had applied for renewal of consent to operate under the Water and Air Act. The suspension order against the Sarvona mine also directed the mine not to commence any mining or developmental activity at the site without obtaining valid consent to operate from the board as required under Section 21 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. Although the suspension order against the Sarvona mine has been issued to Zantye and company private limited, Vasco da Gama<http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=Vasco%20da%20Gama>, the Sarvona mine has reportedly been now taken over by a different management.
