The decision of the government to finally approve grants for English medium schools from the coming academic year must be welcomed. The parents who stood up to defend their rights to an education for their children in a language of their choice deserve to be congratulated. This is not only a victory for education but also a victory against one type of religious fundamentalism being furthered under the pretext of defending culture and Indian languages. The attempts to polarise the communities on religious grounds by a group against grants to English medium of instruction need to first educate themselves on the Constituion of India.
