My query: Which countries in the world have only one language and only one dialect? Sandeep wrote: Now, it appears that students do not have this option to choose a third language, since Konkani (or Marathi) has been made compulsory till standard X. I find this stance of the Government highly objectionable, since it denies those who wish to learn a foreign language their legitimate right to do so. My suggestion: Start collecting 52,000 plus signatures of parents in support of removing imposed compulsory learning of Konkani and/or Marathi and send it to Digu or Church-Hill. They will immediately remove the imposed compulsion of learning Konkani and/or Marathi. This constant fighting will lead us nowhere. Let better sense prevail. My query: Knowing that there would be agitations why did Digu government not take warring groups and other stakeholders into confidence before implementing unilateral decision on MoI, and that too in contradiction to what his government promised in the recently concluded assembly session.
