-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM: About six buffaloes were today found poisoned in a kulagar at Pirachi kond Bicholim which are suspected to later used for the purpose of illegal slaughter and meat.
According to the available information today late at night the Animal Rescue Squad found six buffaloes being poisoned at Pirachi kond in a kulagar belonging to one Francis Gravo. "The modus operandi of the killing seem to be the same used earlier in Mayem as they all are killed through poisoning through jackfruit" ARS chief, Amrut singh told Herald from the spot "the people use a substance called thymax in the fruit and after eating it the animal dies." After reaching the spot the ARS team also found about 22 heads of buffaloes without horns. "We suspect that it is not just that these few buffaloes are killed here but after going through the area we also found about 22 skelaton heads of buffaloes and we suspect that they were killed for meat" Amrut singh told "we are still searching the area along with the police as we have heard that there are still more such skeletons spotted by the locals." "As of now we are not able to say who has done this act but we feel that whoevere has done this has done it only for the purpose of getting meat" Amrut singh told "we would check the legal formalities and see how we could file complaint in this regard." It may be recalled that some days back simillar incident was reported in Mayem wherein 10 buffaloes were killed using the same poision. Meanwhile, doctor Deepak Betkikar who conducted the panchanama confirmed that the death was due to poisoning.
