The Corporation of the City of Panaji at its Special Council Meeting held on July 4 congratulated Goa’s Ivana Furtado, a resident of St. Inez, Panaji for recording yet another success at the International arena and for making Goa and India proud. The motion was moved by Smt Bharati Heble, the local Councilor in whose ward the young Chess prodigy resides.
Smt. Bharati Heble, speaking on the congratulatory motion, praised Ivana for winning two Golds at the just concluded Commonwealth Under 14 Chess Open Championship held at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg, South Africa. Ivana’s 4 Gold winning feat at the prestigious Asian Youth Chess Championship, held in Philippines in the month of May 2011, also came in for special praise and applause. The congratulatory motion was later unanimously passed by the CCP Council.
