When I mentioned the Mapusa-based garage sale venture, some friends
had already heard of it, and just wanted to know where it was located.
Surprisingly, I actually met Freda Vaz before encountering her outlet!

Bombay-returned Freda Vaz's <[email protected]> venture is called
Seconds To Go, and is based on the garage sale concept. She explains:
"People who want to get rid of their unwanted stuff, be it antiques,
wedding gifts, Gulf returning residents with goods to sell etc, prefer
to sell them from my shop rather than from their homes."

The goods are sold at St. Anthony's Apts., Shop 16, Block B, Near
Mapusa Clinic ONLY every Saturday morning from 9.30-12.30 and on other
days by appointment (mobile: 9823 251 180) after 5pm. The goods to be
sold have to be at reduced prices compared to new items, and Freda
works on a commision basis.

Items for sale range from crockery, to electrical items, curios, DVDs,
mobiles, crystals, cameras, watches, novels, furniture, toys and
anything in good working condition. Sounds like an innovative idea in
our otherwise waste-generating society. Why waste something that can
be reused by someone else? As for myself, I recall the 'swapshop' run
by the JS (Junior Statesman) magazine in the 1970s. It was great fun,
and I even managed to get a collection of stamps from the North East
via that! FN
