Liquor sale hit as devout observe Shravan (for Hindus), Ramzan (for Muslims)

Shravan, the auspicious month according to Hindu calendar, is a time for people
to take a break from the hectic habits of normal day-to-day life. Coming just
before the Ganesh Chaturthi, this month-long period sees people from the
majority community generally opting to strictly adhere to a vegetarian diet and
cut out their consumption of liquor. However, a visit to a few outlets serving
the liquid has shown a mixed response to this normal practice. “Liquor business
has certainly gone down by almost 30 to 40 per cent. On the whole, generally
the business has gone down,” says Mr Barnabe Sapeco, owner of a popular
restaurant in the city ‘Sagar’. “Lots of people have stopped eating non
vegetarian foods and drinks.” [NT]
