Education in corruption and apathy

Poor quality maintenance work and a dilapidated building are giving a nightmare
to students, not their syllabus. The inundated classrooms and corridors are a
telling sign of quality of education in Goa. Building schools is one aspect in
the promotion of literacy, but making those structures safe and amenable to
pursue education is quite another task altogether. In once such case, the
condition of the Government High School (GHS) at Kalay-Sanguem has deteriorated
to such an extent that almost all classrooms are submerged and students are
forced to study in water-logged classrooms. Parents of students studying at the
GHS Kalay have bitterly complained about the poor condition of the school
building. “The school building, constructed some 30 years ago to all classrooms
and corridor,” complained a parent. [H]
