I can similarly ask who is paying you to write this. Nobody is being paid to join this movement. On the contrary, those who have joined the agitation are spending their own money and giving a part of their time to raise their voices against the scourge of corruption. Motor cycle Pilots are citizens of India and corruption is a disease which affects their lives too. So they are there. So are the Engineers, doctors, lawyers, architects, artists, poets, journalists and others from so many different spheres of life.
Students from across the length and breath of our Nation have also joined the protest in large numbers. In Panjim city itself, hundreds of school and college children have written essays, poems and painted beautiful theme drawings on the evils of 'Corruption'. Shortly, I shall be uploading some of these best submissions to the web. There is no force or compulsion on anyone. No incentives are given to anyone. India is a democratic Country where everyone is free to peacefully protest. If at all anyone has a problem with that, it should be the Individuals themselves or their parents/ guardians(for minor children) but they have done nothing of that sort. So I see no logical reason why you should have an issue with the participation of students at the rallies. Efforts are being made by vested interests to link this movement with Opposition parties but it is a point of fact that 'Team Anna' has nothing to do with any of them. In fact, as much as the Congress, most of the other political parties if not all have also opposed Team Anna's Jan Lokpal Draft. So the question of destabilizing the Government or trying to replace one Government with another is hogwash and nothing but propaganda backed by the ruling outfit and some political activists supporting it with an aim to destabilize the movement. Our fight is not against the Congress. It is not against 'A' political party or for 'B' political party. When it comes to combating and tackling corruption, all Political parties have proven to be birds of the same feather. Only the degrees might vary. They are all the same because the system permits them to be like that. The system has given them a lot of power and they do not want to give it up. We want to change the system. We want to bring accountability into governance which is what Team Anna's Jan Lokpal Bill proposes to do. Officials who do not perform their duties in time will be penalized and strict action will be taken against them. With a strong bill, citizens like Floriano Lobo will no longer have to wait for 2 1/2 long years to get their simple works done. Citizens will no longer be forced to pay bribes to get their Licenses or Water connections or NOCs as they would prefer to wait for the stipulated periods prescribed in the Citizen's Charters. This prospect is therefore scary for the Political Parties as they fear they will lose control over Government machinery. They will no longer be able to harass and intimidate ordinary citizens who stand up against them from time to time. That is what they do not want. The Lokpal Bill is doing the rounds in the Parliament for 42 long years. It has gone through 8 standing committees and each time it has been rejected. Now, once again, the Government of the day is trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the Public by employing delaying tactics and citing Parliamentary technicalities. There is no political will to tackle this menace. Which is all the more reason why Civil Society must stay united and all forces must come together to get our Country out of its current mess.
