Stung by several scams and allegations of corruption, the Congress leadership 
has decided not to grant party tickets to those indicted by the Shah 
commission, even it the person is deemed a 'winnable' candidate. The Shah 
Commission is probing illegal mining in the state.
Speaking to media persons All India Congress Committee general secretary in 
charge of Goa, J S Brar said that if any concrete evidence was found against 
any Congressman involved in illegal mining the party will take cognizance of it.
"We will definitely not allow that person to contest elections," Brar said.
He also said he will brief the high command that all state MLAs and Goa Pradesh 
Congress Committee members are backing chief minister Digambar Kamat.
"Preparedness for elections and maintaining discipline in the party would be 
the content of my report which will be submitted to the high command," he said.
Brar is in Goa to take the stock of the situation on illegal mining with regard 
to media reports and make a detailed report on Congress members involved in 
illegal mining.
On Wednesday Brar met the chief minister, ministers and MLAs, and he said all 
were of the opinion that nothing should done in haste. "One thing is clear, 
without a proper inquiry report there will be no action against the chief 
minister. The party is totally united," he said.
Brar also sent a letter to all Congressmen who have gone to the media and 
threatened to take action against them if they continue to indulge in 
anti-party activities. "We are giving them a last warning," Brar said.
Congress also announced the names of Mauvin Godinho, Aleixo Sequeira, Ramakant 
Khalap, Vishwajit Rane, Vijay Sardesai and Valanka Alemao as spokespersons for 
the party.
