Goa Governor Mr. K. Sankaranarayanan like his predecessor Dr. S.S.Sidhu has refused to comply with the Right to Information Act.
The Goa Raj Bhavan this week has refused to furnish information sought under the Right to Information Act while continuing to claim that the Goa Governor is not a Public Authority. What was sought was details of the total expenditure incurred in 2011 on the Goa Governor’s official and unofficial visits out of Goa. One wonders as to how Governor Sankaranarayanan who as Governor of Maharashtra is complying with the Right to Information Act, strangely claims that in Goa he is not a Public Authority. It is inconceivable that the same person was taking a different stand as Governor in two States. Governor K. Sankaranarayanan who assumed charge as Governor of Goa on 8th September 2011 is also the Governor of Maharashtra As the Right to Information Act was enacted to ensure transparency and accountability, what is the Goa Raj Bhavan trying to conceal by blatantly violating the Right to Information Act. Governor Sankaranarayanan knows that even the President of India was complying with the Right to Information Act, so the working and functioning of the Goa Raj Bhavan needs be open for public scrutiny.
