Vigilance to probe illegal land allotments by GIDC

MD Ajit Naik shunted; IAS Niraj Semwal takes over idhar-

Ban on land allotments till issue is sorted out

Task Force recommendations accepted

Two panels to look into land allotments

PANJIM: Taking strong cognisance of the Goa Small Industries Association ( GSIA) complaint against the Goa Industrial Development Corporation ( GIDC) chairman and officials, the State Government has decided to ask the Vigilance Department to book cases against all accused in the land allotment scam.

Also, the Government has banned the tender process for the allotment of land at all industrial estates in the State.

According to sources, the decision to book cases was taken at a closed door meeting of the State task force at Hotel Nanutel, Margao on Sunday.

"The Government will ask the Vigilance Department to book cases under Prevention of Corruption Act, IPC, Central civil Services Act 1964 and Central Civil Services Act 1965", sources told Herald.

Sources said the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Vigilance Department will probe into the matter.

Further, they informed that the State Task Force had made recommendations in this regard about six months back but the Government had not taken any note of it.

"Nonetheless, the Government has accepted that report and has constituted two committees -- Screening Committee and Review Committee -- under the Industries Secretary’s chairmanship", sources informed.

Director Industries, representatives of Confederation of Indian Industries, Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Goa Small Industries Association and Finance Department would be the members on the committees.

The State Government, meanwhile, has also transferred the GIDC MD Ajit Naik, who is replaced by Niraj Semwal, IAS. The GSIA complaint had also named Ajit Naik as the accused in their police complaint.

The GSIA complaint had alleged gross irregularities in land allotments by the GIDC and had named Chairman Babu Kavlekar, MD Ajit Naik and former MD Palyekar in the case.
