Capt Rebello's history of Cine Times is one-sided. There are many aspects
of the family and the newspaper that he has chosen to ignore, or perhaps he
is unaware. Some of the background to the famoly history was told to me by
the late tiatrist Souza Ferrao who was the family's neighbour for many
years in the small lane (forgets its name) opposite the masjid near Metro
Cinema.
Some of the history can be obtained from Cyriaco Dias, another stalwart of
the Konkani stage, who lives in Goa and is a close buddy of Tomazinho
Cardozo.
Cine Times indulged in playing politics among tiatrists. The Elly brothers
later become "contractors" of triatrs. The newspaper even attacked me once
in print and I had to rebut it in the pages of Goa Times, both keen
rivals.
Besides getting the name of the band wrong as pointed out by Fred, Silviano
has also got the surname of the editor of Goan Sports Weekly wrong. It was
Colaco. The D'Cruz surname belonged to Elvira, editor of Ave Maria.
