There were two dharnas witnessed at Capt. of Ports jetty today the 3rd.
December, 2011
One was by the GCWU [Goa Catholic Welfare Union], and the other by the
'Mayem Bhoo-Vimochan Nagrik Kruti Samiti'.
The sentiments portrayed by the GCWU are:
Take away IFFI from Goa. It is of no benefit to Goa and Goans.
Stop the disrespect to the Patron Saint of Goa.
The Speakers were: Juino D'Souza, Fr. Antonio Rodrigues, Floriano lobo, Adv.
Yatish Naik and Joao Pereira.
While Juino said that the Goan Electorate will teach a lesson to the
Congress by setting up Goa's own Command in Goa,
Fr. Rodrigues echoed Goa's displeasure over the dilution of the day
specially dedicated to the Patron Saint of Goa by brining in the IFFI.
Floriano Lobo reminded Goans that Goemcho Saib is the protector of Goa and
Goans by citing the incident that has happened a long time ago when a couple
of terrorists dressed as man and woman had lit thick candles in the Bom Jesu
Cathedral just before the Cathedral was closed for the day and beat a hasty
retreat. That a distinctive voice was heard calling out: ' VATI PALLOI'AT
.... VATI PALLOI'AT' [PUT OFF THE CANDLES]. When the candles were broken,
two bombs were found. The couple was then arrested at Castle-rock as they
were fleeing Goa. He said that the Patron Saint likewise will send the IFFI
packing which is not wanted by the people of Goa. Nobody wants it, he said
and therefore Manohar Parrikar has brought it to Goa with such misplaced
fan-fare to drain Goa's Tax-payers by feeding movie vultures and hyenas that
none care about.
Adv. Yatish Naik said that St. Francis Xavier was not only the Patron Saint
of the Catholics in Goa but of all Goans, Hindus, Muslims, Catholic what
have you.
Joao Pereira echoed the same sentiment against IFFI.
The gathering dispersed after making its presence felt and after delivering
its message. It was well covered by the electronic media.
The Mayem dharna ( Chain Hunger Strike) has over 100 member strong and well
organized. Floriano lobo asked them a question. "Do you Mayemkars really
want to be liberated?" The answer was a resounding 'YES'. "In that case", he
told them, "you have to get rid of all National Parties from Goa and bring
in Goa's own High Command, at least to try it for a term. If it too does not
work for Goa and Goans then GOD ONLY HELP GOA. They agreed. Floriano did
make it a point to pass on GRA's (election) leaflets and sensitized
Kashinath Mayekar ( the leader of the group) on a successful way of getting
results which these dharnas will not. Hopefully, they will follow the
instuctions given by the Master Activist.
