Moira woke up to a dull, overcast humid and gloomy New Year.
I wonder if this is an indication of what the year to come will be like.
Taking my dog Laskar out for a walk I passed by the Moira Club and what do
I see - a big plastic banner that says: Acron Asdhar Trust wishes Moira a
Happy New Year 2012 - or something to that effect.
Wow I said to myself - Acron are the property builders who many a Moidekar
were not too long ago were being lambasted left right and centre by the
activists and all and sundry.were criticizing for violating building laws
and endangering the water table by making swimming pools etc etc. Last
night there was a party in the club allegedly to bring in the new year to
which only a select few were invited and where this big banner appeared for
the first time. Now what does that tell you? I wonder what else Acron has
to offer the good folk of Moira.
My immediate memory of the year gone by is of an unsolicited visit to my
house yesterday by Glen Souza Ticlo, the BJP candidate for Aldona
constituency along with one of his workers. Though surprised I politely
invited him in He asked us about what we thought about the situation
politic. I just shrugged my shoulders while the missus launched a tirade
against politicians in general. He tried to make out a reason for why we
should vote for the BJP. The missus who I say through experience is even
more blunt than me bluntly said that she was not particularly impressed by
the communalism of the party. He was well prepared for this and spoke about
how good the party was last time etc and how they were putting up 7
candidates this time and so on. I'm not sure if we looked suitably
impressed but he said he'd be visiting before the elections. I said it
would be nice if he visited after the elections. He was a bit taken aback
and asked why. We gave him the obvious reply that once elected nobody
bothers for the next five years. I wonder what reply he'll have prepared
for this one the next time it is asked.
Mr Ticlo is one of the candidates that the BJP has put up in a hopeless
constituency to shore up its secular credentials. Dayanand Narvekar is
contesting this seat on the Congress ticket. His daughter got married on
December 23 and his parents invited most of the Aldona constituency for the
wedding with a nice card and a box of laddoos. They were quite tasty.
