Dear Earthgaokars, For the last 2 years a group of young people has been organising Earth Hour<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h07ueZM4LU>(see Earth Hour 2011), in Saligao (second pic), *together with hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the world to support the largest environmental event in history – Earth Hour.*
More than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011 alone, sending a powerful message for action on climate change. It also ushered in a new era with members going 'Beyond the Hour' to commit to lasting action for the planet. Without a doubt, it’s shown how great things can be achieved when people come together for a common cause *This year too, y**ou are warmly invited to participate in Earth Hour 2012!<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvxhLLlOEXw&feature=fvwrel> * When: Saturday, 31 March, 8:30-9:30 pm. Where: Lourdes Convent Open Air Courts, Saligao, Bardez, Goa. Lighting: Strictly candle light, under a starry sky! Programme: Singing songs that celebrate nature, conservation, peace and hope for the planet, human beings, people's unity and power, grassroot democracy etc...and for those who feel like it shaking a leg is a good way to celebrate! Your role: i. switch off all your lights *at home*. and be at Lourdes Convent at 8:30 pm sharp. ii. if possible, bring at least one candle that will last an hour (more the better!). Solar powered lamps are welcome too. iii. if you can, bring a *non-electric, non-battery powered*. musical instrument (among others: violins, guitars, mandolins, accordions, harmoniums, mouth organs, wind instruments, tablas, bongos and other improvised percussion instruments are welcome). iv. if you can, bring song books and song sheets. v. if you can, bring a poster to show you love Goa and the planet. vi. bring your voice and at least one friend. vii. email this message to others. vii. invite others in Goa to this celebration. What's left?: Turn off your lights, be there at Lourdes Convent and *show* the world what can be done. It’s Showtime!
