The Milagres Feast in Mapusa is fast approaching. During this feast, there is a traditional fair which is supposed to last for three days and the vendors of goods place them for sale on the Bandodkar Road and St. Jerome Road. While St. Jerome Road is fully blocked for vehicular traffic from Alankar Theatre to Mapusa Tar Bridge, Bandodkar Road is partially blocked.
The blocking of Bandodkar Road is a great inconvenience to people from Moira, Bastora, Nachinola, Ucassaim, Aldona, Corjuem, Pomburpa etc as the traffic jams that are caused create unnecessary delays to people going to the above places. Moreover, there are often unnecessary fights as the vendors place their goods right on the roads and sometimes these get damaged by the vehicles. Extending the fair beyond the traditional three days also extends the misery of the people who use the tar bridge. While we understand that many merchants and trades people depend on the fair for their income, we suggest that the items be displayed in the fields beyond and side roads that too on only one side of the road. May the concerned authorities wake up to our problems? Tony de Sa. (This letter has been sent to Navhind Times, Herald, and Gomantak Times) -- ** "Tony de Sa" < tonydesa at gmail dot com > **
