The YouTube videos below show clearly, and in his own words, that Sanal Edamaruku wanted to debate only about the fake miracle claim. He repeatedly insisted that this was his only purpose in being on that TV program. But the 3 or 4 people who were shouting him down and issuing threats against him wanted to force him to express his personal opinions on all their other religious beliefs, unrelated to the fake miracle. They were deliberately provoking him and leading him into offering and debating opinions that would, in their estimation, "hurt the feelings" of people like them. They even brought in a lawyer to provoke him to express and defend his personal opinions in public. The latter is an illegal tactic called entrapment that is used by rogue law enforcement officials and unscrupulous lawyers to manufacture a crime, and prosecute an otherwise innocent person. So the specific intimidation, provocation and entrapment seen in the videos below clearly demonstrate that there was nothing gratuitous about what Sanal said.
