Before this becomes another urban legend, permit me to clarify on the
above point. The last four lines make make me out to be some
self-sacrificing saint, but that is not exactly how it was.

I had *already* moved out (a few weeks or maybe a few months) after a
longish stint with the news agency referred to above. On learning that
Mayabhushan was looking out for openings, I did mention that this
could be a possibility. There is therefore  no question of having
"voluntarily and graciously up [my] job".

As a freelancer myself, I do pass on tips to colleagues and younger
journalists about possible openings, when these come my way. Others
have helped me in turn. But to make me out to be the sacrificial lamb
willing to give up so much is simply not true! Just to put the record
