Marshall Mendonsa writes: “However, I was reading Barad’s post between the
lines and what it insinuated. Hence my queries to him. I am still waiting for
the information.”

I think I have sent my response to Marshall’s question. In case it has been
lost from my end, I am reposting the response:

QUOTE
Marshall Mendonsa asks very valid questions as follows:

1.Could you kindly share with us the source of this information?

2.Could you kindly inform us the financial status and source of funding of
Tarun Bharat, Daily Pioneer, Organiser, Panchajanya, Kamal Sandesh, India TV.

Regarding the first, the information available for NDTV and IBN is from their
published balance sheet, since both the companies have public shareholding.
When I was discussing with an accountant friend of mine, he says that he is not
able to easily work out how the losses are financed. Of course, it could be a
reflection on the competence of my friend. ☺

Regarding Outlook and Tehelka, this information is also publicly available,
since companies are obliged to publish their balance sheets.

Re the second question. First, I do not know their financial status, since I
did not look them up. But, given that seasoned organizations are making such
large losses, these publications would also be making losses. Perhaps someone
else can spend some time researching, and let the members on this list know the
picture.

I am sure Marshall (and the whole world) knows that Organizer and Panchjanya
are the RSS media outlets. In fact, if anything is written in them, it is
immediately seen as the RSS view. So, the funding of the losses, if any, would
be quite clear.

Personally, I do not have any problem of anyone setting up a media outlet AND
making losses. The larger issue is that of transparency. I do hope that the
various media outlets that are making losses let their viewers know the
position.
UNQUOTE

As far as Marshall’s comment on insinuation is concerned, I am insinuating that
perhaps there is a larger agenda amongst the media, and that will be clarified
only if there is transparency in the funding of the losses.

Best regards,

U. G. Barad
