-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM: Heavy rains today cause major landslide at Narve today blocking the entire Pilgao-Narve road.
According to the available information the landslide occurred in the morning wherein big stones came down on the road. It may be stated that on the Pilgao-Narve road there is a valley and landslide is a common problem during monsoon season. Today the incident occurred at about 10 am. After receiving the information the fire brigade personnel went to the site and tried to clear the derbies but heavy rains marred their work. Later, the Bicholim deputy collector, Narayan Gad went to the site and took stock of the situation. As the road had become dangerous for the people he asked the police to divert all the traffic from Mayem. "We are ordered to clear the derbies on the road but because of heavy down pour we were unable to do it. Tomorrow we will clear the road and make it accessible to the public" a fire force personnel told adding that the landslide is still going on. The villager of Pilgao and Narve who were present at the site expressed surprise over the incident and asked the authorities to take proper measures to avoid any untoward incident.
