Dear BC, Splendid word: capoeira. I will take the martial meaning over hennery/gudd, [ in Konkani : ) ]. http://www.capoeira.htmlplanet.com/capoeira_dictionary.htm
Point being, am happy this word made it on Goanet. PS ALL: I love words, I hope as much as many of you do. Marathi throws up many of those, and one can easily land in riddleesque waters; besides, its a rich language. As ones language fecundates, one begins to understand the pains that have besot those around us; who use the tongue as scimitars/sabres (a sword the Crusaders encountered in the Middle East). Our talwars/tulwars have dual uses, cutting and thrusting; but we are a nation of short-cuts. I WONDER, if there are proverbs which employ the word, gudd. ++++++++++++ venantius j pinto > Message: 10 > Date: Tue, 17 Jul 2012 06:31:07 +0100 (BST) > From: Bernado Colaco <[email protected]> > To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> > Subject: [Goanet] Damn The Portuguese > > Just 5 decades Goans were faced with wanton attacks by the invader.
